Festival screened over 100 African films from by dozens of respected filmmakers and producers from Europe and Africa.
Teza, from the director Haile Gerima, took the top prize at this years Tarifa African Film Festival, and $18,500 (€15,000) prize money.
The award for best feature film director, worth $12,300 (€10,000), went to Carolina Kamya for Imani (The Faith).
The award for best actress went to Rehema Nanfuka for her role of Mary in Imani, and Ken Ambani, Abubakar Mwenda and Godfrey Odhiambo won best actor award for their roles in From a Whisper.
Spain’s Tarifa Film Festival (Festival De Cine Africano De Tarifa) is one of the biggest African film festivals in Europe. In nine days, it screened over 100 African films from by dozens of respected filmmakers and producers from Europe and Africa, and awarded $59,800 (€48,500) in prize money through eight different categories
The festival, which ran May 21 and 29, aims is to spread knowledge about African film production by exhibiting a representative wide variety of audiovisual African works every year.
