BIFF shuffles management team for Asian Film Market
EXCLUSIVE: Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has carried out an organisational reshuffle led by former World Cinema programming head Jay Jeon going over to the Asian Film Market to be its director.
Jeon keeps the title of deputy director of BIFF. Former Korean Cinema programmer Jeon Chanil joins him as the market’s deputy director.
Former BIFF operations manager Daniel Kim joins them as Asian Film Market general manager, taking the place of Nam Dong-chul. Nam in turn has taken the Korean Cinema programmer job.
Also, former Midnight Passion section programmer Pak Dosin is now a programmer in the World Cinema section, along with Rhee Soue-won, who has not moved. Pak will also be in charge of managing the Asian Film Academy (AFA) workshop. Rhee’s previous fellow World Cinema programmer Lee Sang-yong has gone to the Jeonju International Film Festival (see related story).
In addition, Karen Park has been named head of Program Team/Hospitality Team.
BIFF representatives will be at Sundance, Rotterdam and Berlin. Wide Angle programmer and director of the Asian Cinema Fund Hong Hyo-sook will be on the Berlinale Shorts 2013 section jury.
BIFF honorary festival director Kim Dong-ho will be making his international debut as a filmmaker with his short entitled Jury screening in the Panorama section.
The Busan fest will run this year Oct 3-12 with the Asian Film Market running Oct 7-10.
