Big-budget 3D trilogy planned for China's Creation of the Gods

Beijing-based financier Baiyi Chen, Shanghai’s Dream Tube Entertainment and Taiwan-based producer Steve Chicorel are joining forces to produce a 3D big-budget trilogy based on the classic Chinese novel Fong Xian Ban (Creation Of The Gods).
 
The three partners are planning to start shooting the three films back-to-back in 2012 and have one film ready for delivery each year starting in 2013. It will be directed by Dream Tube founder John Wong, a commercials filmmaker who has worked in both Hollywood and China. Chen, who has interests in China’s media and advertising industries, is bank-rolling the project, although the producers are also looking to bring in additional financing partners.
 
Described by the producers as a Chinese Lord Of The Rings, the English and Chinese-language project is based on a trilogy of books, Creation Of The Gods, published by Chen’s Yi Sang Media, which is a semi-mythical account of the fall of the Shang Dynasty in the 3rd Century BC. The story follows a flawed hero who leads a group of immortals to overthrow an evil empire before it destroys the world. US screenwriters and story editors have been brought in to work on the script.
 
“A project such as this which has excited both big name talent and the Chinese government can take advantage of fresh technologies, cost-effective labour and a blossoming economy,” said Wong.
 
Wong added that his long-time friend Jackie Chan is supporting the project, although it’s too early to say whether he’ll be involved as a producer or actor.
 
Dream Tube has produced a puppet TV series called Zip-A-Gang and is developing a Christmas holiday film, Shanghaied Santa, which starts filming this summer. Dream Tube and Chicorel are also developing another 3D project Wind Of Tigers about an American pilot crash-landing in a Chinese farming village during the Japanese occupation.
