Busan’s Asian Project Market (APM) has announced 30 selections for this year’s edition including projects from Hur Jin-ho, Nonzee Nimibutr, Ryoo Seung-wan, Harada Masato and Lin Cheng-Sheng.

The selection as usual ranges from up-and-coming directors to veterans, although this year with a notable influx of genre films showing up in the mix.

Formerly known as the Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP), the newly renamed projects market will open Oct 10-13 at the BEXCO convention centre along with the Asian Film Market and BIFCOM.

This year’s APM features veterans such as Hur Jin-ho [pictured] with an adaptation of the French novel Dangerous Liaisons – to be produced in China, and Taiwan’s Lin Cheng-Sheng presenting a story about a legendary baker.

Genre films include Thailand’s Nonzee Nimibutr’s psycho-thriller, a spy film from Ryoo Seung-wan, and a shamanism horror film from Night Fishing co-director Park Chan-kyong.

In addition to three Japanese projects from directors such as Harada Masato – about a Japanese family in Hawaii during WWII, this year’s APM also has four coproductions with Japan. Amongst these are the Mo Brothers’ Killers, Wayne Chang’s Legend Of T-Dog and Southeast Loves, an omnibus composed of short films by Southeast Asian directors such as Aditya Assarat, Phan Dang Di and Vimukthi Jayasundara.

Newer filmmakers include Abu Shahed Emon and Sheron Dayoc who were also selected as for the 2011 Asian Cinema Fund’s Script Development support.

APM is also hosting programmes such as the EAVE: Ties that Bind workshop co-organized with the Udine Far East Film Festival, an EAVE, Film Fund Talk promoting meetings with the world’s major fund managers, and Asia-Pacific Producers Network (APN) Round Table.

The 16th BIFF will run Oct 6-14, with the Asian Film Market and the APM Oct 10-13.
