China Lion Film Distribution has announced that it will release Feng Xiaogang’s Back To 1942 in the US and Canada on Nov 30, day-and-date with its mainland China release.

Based on Liu Zhengyun’s best-selling novel Remembering 1942, the film tells the story of the devastating famine that ravaged Henan province during World War II.

The cast includes Xu Fan, Zhang Guoli, Chen Daoming, Zhang Mo and Zhang Hanyu as well as Adrien Brody and Tim Robbins.

The film will initially receive a limited release throughout major North American cities, including Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto, Washington DC and Vancouver, on Nov 30. 

It will open in Chicago and Seattle on Dec 7 with further bookings to be announced. 

In China the film will be released by its producer, Huayi Brothers, which is an investor in China Lion, along with Bona Film Group and other partners.
