Hong Kong’s Media Asia has boarded Emperor Motion Pictures’ As The Light Goes Out, a big-budget firefighting drama to be directed by Derek Kwok and star Nicholas Tse and Shawn Yue.

Scheduled to start shooting this month, the film stars Tse and Yue as firefighters battling an out-of-control blaze at a liquor warehouse. In addition to fighting fire, they are also up against local politics, deceit and mistrust. Simon Yam and Hu Jun round out the cast.

The film marks the second time that EMP and Media Asia have co-invested in a film, following their collaboration on Johnnie To’s Blind Detective. EMP announced the firefighting project at this year’s Filmart in Hong Kong, but without the title and the casting of Shawn Yue.

“A lot of films have been made about other uniformed forces, in particular the police force, in Hong Kong but our firefighters are often the unsung celluloid heroes,” said EMP CEO Albert Lee.
