Korean sales company Finecut has announced a raft of sales for Kim Ki-duk’s Pieta after its screening at the Venice Film Festival. The competition film was met with standing ovations yesterday.
The latest from the maverick Korean director has sold to Maywin Films for ex-USSR including Baltic States, AS Fidalgo for Norway, Bir Film for Turkey, Ama Films for Greece and Edko Films for Hong Kong.
German distributor MFA+ Filmdistribution also acquired Pieta before Venice and is planning to release the film after its German premiere at Filmfest Hamburg. The festival is set to award Kim Ki-duk the Douglas Sirk Prize this year for his lifetime achievement.
The film also previously sold to Good Films for Italy and is due for a Sept 14 release nationwide. Finecut head Youngjoo Suh says she expects more deals as the film is also headed to the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival in the Masters section.
