Fortissimo Films is to handle international sales on Indian director Ashim Ahluwalia’s feature film debut Miss Lovely which is premiering in the upcoming Cannes Festival in Un Certain Regard.

Ahluwalia, who previously directed documentary John & Jane, produced Miss Lovely under the Future East banner along with Shumona Goel, Sanjay Shah, and Pinaki Chatterjee.

The multi million dollar film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, former Miss India Niharika Singh and Anil George.

Set against the exotic backdrop of Bombay’s “C” movie business of the 1980’s the film tells the tale of two brothers who turn on each other in a sordid tale of betrayal, doomed love, jealousy and revenge.

Fortisssimo’s chairman, Michael J. Werner said: “Ashim is a true original on the Indian cinema scene; he’s an auteur and an intellectual combining a vibrant imagination with commercial sensibilities.”

Ahluwalia added: “Fortissimo has been a company that I’ve always been sort of obsessed with. I mean, I know their early catalogue better than most people should. They’ve backed Hou Hsiao Hsien, Wong Kar Wai and much of the contemporary cinema that I love.”Fortissimo will begin sales on the project at Cannes.
