Malayalam superstar Mammootty will play the lead in Kunjanandan’s Shop (Kunjananthante Kada), the latest project from National Film Award-winning director Salim Ahamed.
Produced by Ahamed’s company Allens Media, the Malayalam-language film revolves around the strained relationship between a husband and wife, with social issues woven into the narrative.
Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty (Slumdog Millionaire) will design sound for the film. Production is expected to start in January 2013 in the town of Palakkad in Kerala.
Ahamed’s feature debut Abu, Son of Adam (Adaminte Makan Abu), the story of an aging Muslim couple who want to take the Hajj pilgrimage, won best film, best actor and best cinematography at India’s National Film Awards lin 2011.
The film also screened at several international film festivals including the Seattle International Film Festival and London Asian Film Festival in 2012.
