The Match Factory has picked up international rights to Anup Singh’s Indo-European co-production Qissa, which is currently shooting in Punjab, India.
Starring Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire), the film revolves around a Sikh logger, who is seeking to rebuild his life after the Partition of India, and his relationship with his son.
The Punjabi-language film is co-produced by Germany’s Heimatfilm with Dutch production house Augustus Film, France’s Cine-Sud and India’s National Film Development Corp (NFDC). The Match Factory has international rights outside the co-production territories.
Singh previous directed The Name Of A River (2002) which played in more than 30 festivals worldwide and won several awards. He has also directed film projects for Indian TV and consulted for BBC2.
Set to be the first film to shoot under the Indian-German co-production treaty, Qissa has secured funding from the NFDC, the Dutch Film Fund, Eurimages and German funds Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and North Rhine Westphalia (NRW).
