Peter Loehr joins Legendary East as CEO

Former Creative Artists Agency’s China managing director Peter Loehr has been confirmed as the CEO of Legendary East Ltd, the subsidiary of Legendary Pictures LLC. 

Loehr sent an email note to industry colleagues and collaborators today, confirming his new position. “I am tremendously excited about this opportunity and so look forward to continuing to work with all of you,” Loehr said in the email.

Legendary East was established in June 2011 by Legendary Entertainment (The Dark Knight, Inception) chairman/CEO Thomas Tull as a Hong Kong-based production company aiming to enter the booming Chinese market. Chinese film studio Huayi Brothers was originally its investment, production and distribution partner. However, the company suffered a setback last December after a key investor from Hong Kong put its $220.5 million investment on hold, because of the difficult capital market situation.

With Loehr now taking the post as CEO, Legendary East is located in Beijing, where a majority of China’s film studios are based. 

Legendary East last year announced the production of The Great Wall, to be directed by Edward Zwick with Marshall Herskovitz producing, about the mystery of China’s Great Wall.

Loehr is renowned for his expertise in international co-productions. During his CAA tenure, he helped package co-productions such as John Woo’s Battle Of Red Cliff and Rob Minkoff’s Forbidden Kingdom. Prior to joining CAA, his credits as producer include Zhang Yang’s Shower and Sunflower and Roger Spottiswoode’s The Children Of Huang Shi.
