The new Hollywood-compatible design comprises eight sound stages within Film City, Mumbai.
Reliance ADA subsidiary and film services company Reliance MediaWorks has launched its major studio facility in Filmcity, Mumbai.
The eight sound stages are spread across seven acres, with a total area of 200,000 square feet, or 25% of the Mumbai studio market.
The RMW Studios are the first studios in India to have advanced technological features such as ‘elephant doors’, fiber optic connectivity to post production facilities and ‘super silent’ sync sound.
The studios will also offer pre-production services such as cameras, multicam equipment, automated lights and LED walls for broadcast shows and events and state of the art post production facilities.
Built over a two-year period by LA-based architects Wylie Carter & Associates, the first three sound stages are operational now with the remaining five set to be operational by mid-2011.
Commenting on the development, Anil Arjun, CEO Reliance MediaWorks said: “There is a severe shortage of high quality infrastructure in Mumbai and this need gap becomes more acute every year with the constant increase in big budget film, broadcast and advertising commercial productions. These Studios are a one stop solution that blends Infrastructure with technology, experience and aesthetics.”
India’s renowned ‘Film Cities’ include Noida Film City, MGR Film City and Ramoji Film City near Hyderabad, one of the world’s largest studio complex’s spread over 2,000 acres.
