Hong Kong production and sales outfit Star Alliance is gearing up to start shooting two co-productions - Monkey: The Masked Warrior with Thailand’s Nakob Co and Zombie II with Taiwan’s Heyshine International, Sky Films and Entertaining Power.
Monkey: The Masked Warrior is a fantasy action film that is being directed by Sirisak Koshpasharin and produced by Sangar Chatchairungruang, whose credits include Bangkok Dangerous and Fireball. Zombie II is a sequel to Zombie 108 - which Star Alliance is handling for international distribution - and will also be directed by Joe Chien.
The company, which is attending the AFM for the first time, has also scored several deals on its first production, The Incredible Truth, directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Sam Leong who is best known for cult hits Dog Bite Dog and Shamo. The film, which stars Christy Chung, has gone to Korea (AVA Entertainment), Thailand (Mono Film), Singapore (Scorpio East), Malaysia (Lotus Five) and Cambodia (West Media).
A veteran distributor in China and Hong Kong, Star Alliance expanded into production and sales earlier this year. It has also built up a library of around 200 titles through individual acquisitions, which includes Ann Hui’s The Story Of Woo Viet and Ronny Yu’s The Saviour.
