Hong Kong-based We Distribution is unveiling romantic comedy, The Truth Of Beauty, produced by Peter Ho-sun Chan and directed by Aubrey Lam.

Produced by Chan’s We Pictures, the project stars mainland Chinese actress Bai Baihe and Hong Kong actor Ronald Cheng. It started shooting earlier this month. Jojo Hui Yuet-chun is producing with Chan.

Lam has also scripted the project which revolves around a 22-year-old college graduate (Bai) who undergoes major cosmetic surgery – including a lip injection, chin implant, nose job and breast augmentation – in an attempt to transform herself from a plain, jobless singleton. Bai recently starred in sleeper hit Love Is Not Blind which had a budget of only $1.4m and grossed $55m in China.

Chan was in Cannes last year with his directorial project Wu Xia, which was in official selection as a Midnight Screening. He is currently producing the Andrew Lau-directed action thriller The Guillotines.

He also previously produced Lam’s Twelve Nights which became a romantic classic in 2000. Lam’s directing credits also include Hidden Tracks, Anna & Anna and a segment of the portmanteua film A Decade Of Love.

She is also one of Hong Kong’s leading scriptwriters with credits including Purple Storm and Men Suddenly In Black 2. She has collaborated as a writer with Chan on several projects including Who’s the Woman, Who’s The Man?, Perhaps Love, The Warlords and Wu Xia.

Cheng, an actor, filmmaker and pop singer, became an instant star after appearing in Twelve Nights. In 2007, he made his directorial debut with the all-star ensemble It’s a Wonderful Life.

Other behind-the-scenes talent on The Truth Of Beauty includes DoP Jake Pollock and editors Azrael Chung and Shirley Yip.
