Borrowed Time raises distribution funding on Kickstarter

EXCLUSIVE: Micro-budget British film set for UK theatrical release following Kickstarter campaign; High Point handles international sales.

Borrowed Time, a cross-generational comedy directed by Jules Bishop, has secured theatrical distribution in the UK following a crowd funding campaign through Kickstarter.

Produced by Olivier Kaempfer of Parkville Pictures, the film stars Phil Davis (Vera Drake) and Theo Barklem-Biggs (The Inbetweeners Movie) as a grumpy old man and teenage would-be burglar odd couple.

Following its premiere at the 2012 Edinburgh International Film Festival, where it was selected for Best of the Fest, the producers chose to raise the P&A costs themselves.

Parkville launched its month-long Kickstarter campaign on Jan 25 and raised £21,721 from 360 backers. It is now applying for finance from the BFI Distribution Fund’s New Models strand and plans to release the film theatrically this summer.

International sales rights to the low-budget feature, funded by Film London’s Microwave scheme, have been picked up by High Point Media Group.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support Borrowed Time has received in reaching our funding goal on Kickstarter,” said Parkville’s Kaempfer.

“We’re delighted that it now ensures a theatrical release for the film, and we’re very excited to be working with the dynamic team at High Point Media Group to take the film beyond that onto further platforms and territories.”

High Point first saw the feature at Film London’s annual sales event LUFF (London UK Film Focus).

Carey Fitzgerald, managing director at High Point, said: “In such a constantly shifting landscape, we are always looking out for exciting new innovators with whom we can share our expertise and we are delighted to be taking this exciting new journey with Parkville Pictures and Microwave.”
