Summit’s penultimate Twilight episode ruled the international waves with ease for a third consecutive session, adding an estimated $40.2m from approximately 9,000 venues in 73 markets for $341m.

The global tally has reached $588.3m incorporating $247.1m from North America and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 will cross $350m internationally and $600m worldwide within days

The film opened in South Korea on $3.2m (3.5bn KRW), rising to $4.3m (4.9bn KRW) and 698,000 admissions including previews.

The UK is the lead market at this stage on $43.4m, followed by CIS on $30.8m, France on $26m, Australia on $24.7m, Germany on $22.4m following a $5.9m second weekend, Italy on $20.2m and Spain on $21.7m.

  • PPI reported a $23m weekend haul for DreamWorks Animation’s Puss In Boots from 2,740 sites in 26 markets as the tally climbed to a relatively early and highly promising $89.2m.


France produced the biggest of the 13 debuts on $8.1m from 671. The family release opened top in Mexico on $3.8m from 526 and took $942,000 in Portugal from 67. Romania delivered DreamWorks Animation’s biggest launch on $371,000 from 26.

Turning to the holdovers, Spain led the way on $3.1m from 383 for $9.2m after two. The film has crossed $50m in Russia after six weekends and stands at $50.7m following a $947,000 weekend haul.

  • Warner Bros Pictures International’s Happy Feet Two grossed $16.3m from 7,000 screens in 40 markets for $34m. 

Debut highlights included Russia on $3.6m from 926, the UK on $2.6m from 491 and Germany on $1.2m from 690. It added $966,000 in the second weekend in Brazil from 362 for $3.3m and stands at $2.3m in Italy after two.

  • Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) reported that Arthur Christmas grossed $11.4m from 5,720 screens in 52 markets for an excellent $45.3m after a few weekends. It added $2.9m from 815 in the UK for $18.2m after four and stands at $9.6m in South Korea and $2.8m in France, both after two.

Sony’s Russian co-production Vysotsky: Thank God I’m Alive stormed to the top on $11.4m from 1,400 screens to score the third biggest launch for a Russian film in industry history. The story chronicles the life of performer Vladimir Vysotsky. 

The Adventures Of Tintin grossed $10.6m from 10,833 screens in 54 markets through SPRI, PPI and the Japanese launch through Toho for a combined $221.6m running total.

The film grossed $4m in Japan to rank third and added $1.6m in China through PPI for $18.1m after three weekends. It has amassed $52.4m in France and $24.5m in Spain, both after six weekends through SPRI, and $25.5m in the UK through PPI after six.

The weekend split was roughly $7.8m from SPRI for $171.6m and $2.8m from PPI for $50.6m.

  • Fox International reported that the sci-fi thriller In Time from New Regency added $9.6m from 3,680 screens in 45 markets for a solid $82.6m.

The film launched in Germany on $2.7m from 414 and Spain on $2m from 350 and stands at $14.7m in Russia and $9.3m in Australia, both after six, $8.5m in the UK after five and $5.7m in France after two.

Taiwanese hit You Are The Apple Of My Eye has become the ninth biggest release in Hong Kong where it has grossed $7.9m after seven weekends. The overall tally is $24.1m.

  • Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International’s Real Steel added $5.3m for $176.4m, while The Muppets brought in $1.8m for a very early $4m running total. The Help stands at $31.5m.
  • Universal’s caper Tower Heist added $4m from 2,500 sites in 45 territories for $42.5m through UPI. It has grossed $5.2m in Russia after two weekends.


Local Spanish acquisition Fuga De Cerebros 2 opened third in Spain on $2.3m from 345 for the second biggest opening of a local film in Spain in the year-to-date and the third biggest comedy opening.    

Immortals added $1.8m through UPI for $22.4m. The overall running total was unavailable as Lionsgate had not reported results at time of writing.

The Thing has reached $7.7m from eight Universal territories, while A Dangerous Method is at $4.8m and Johnny English Reborn stands at $152.5m.
