The strong opening three days of Thor: The Dark World has propelled Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International to a new company record.

Thor 2 has raced to $45.2m from the first three days and with most of its box office to come and the animation Frozen yet to open, the company has reached $2.314bn for the year-to-date, overtaking the previous best of $2.302bn set in 2010.

The achievement marks the fourth year in a row that Disney has exceeded $2bn in international box office.

The year’s hits include Iron Man 3 on $806.4m and Monsters University on $475.1m.
