Fox/New Regency’s David Fincher mystery starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike is becoming a box office force as word of mouth kept it at number one for the second weekend in a row.

Gone Girl stands at $78.3m in North America and has grossed a further $63m from 52 international markets to reach $141m worldwide.

Universal’s Dracula Untold rules the international waves but had to settle for second place in North America on a so-so $23.5m debut from 2,885. Luke Evans stars in Irish director Gary’s Shore’s feature debut, which took $4m from 351 Imax screens.

Disney’s family film Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day starring Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner arrived in third place on a middling $19.1m from 3,088.

Toronto opener The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr and Robert Duvall opened poorly in sixth place through Warner Bros on $13.3m from 3,003, while Lionsgate released thrilled Addicted starring at number seven on $7.6m from 846.

Documentary Meet The Mormons arrived at number 11 through Purdie Distribution on $2.7m from 317.

TWC scored the result of the session with a $121,000 launch for St Vincent. Bill Murray stars in the comedic drama, which averaged $30,250 from six venues. There was another strong limited launch as SPC opened double Sundance winner and awards contender Whiplash on $144,000 from six for a $24,000 average.

Focus Features opened the Jeremy Renner thriller Kill The Messenger on $939,000 from 374. TWC also opened One Chance on $32,800 from 43 sites.

Top 12 fell 1% against last weekend and gained 24% on the comparable session from 2013.

This week’s wide releases are QED International’s Brad Pitt war drama Fury through Colombia Pictures; the Fox animation Book Of Life, voiced by Channing Tatum, Diego Luna and Zoe Saldana; and Relativity Media’s The Best Of Me starring James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan.
