Warner Bros’ Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince held on to the top of  ScreenDaily’s international top 40 chart for a third week, after conjuring up $44.1m across 63 territories.

The haul brings its total international gross to just $4m short of the half-billion dollar mark. The sixth instalment of the franchise has now generated a global tally of $752.4m.

Currently the top grossing film this year overseas, Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs added a further $24.7m from 8,844 screens to bring its total to $551.4m. Fox International’s sequel has now become the highest-grossing animation ever internationally, surpassing the $524.9m record that Finding Nemo set for Disney/Pixar in 2003.

Disney/Pixar’s Up enjoyed a buoyant lift of over 2000% in revenue after strong openings in seven markets including Spain and France. Recording a screen average of $10,900, the film took $23.6m from 2,160 screens for a total of $79.5m. The 3D animation is roughly halfway through its release schedule, with key territories including Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK yet to open.

The highest new entry in the chart was Indian production Love Aaj Kal from Eros International.  Imtiaz Ali’s drama deals with the feeling of being in love, and is set in London and India in 1965. The film took $11.7m from 1,664 screens in 17 markets.

Other international titles making their debut on the chart include China’s On His Majesty’s Secret Service ($4.8m from 405 screens), South Korea’s Take Off ($4.1m from 555) and India’s Magadheera ($3.1m from 687), which placed 11th, 13th and 16th respectively.
