Did You Hear About The Morgans?

Sony Pictures Releasing International’s romantic comedy Did You Hear About The Morgans?, starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker, enjoyed a 149%increase in takings over its third weekend on international release. It expanded to a further nine markets including Spain where it placed second behind Fox International’s Avatar on $1.9m from 346 screens. Now in 16 territories, the comedy added $8.2m to its international total of $15.5m.

Io, Loro E Lara

Warner Bros Italy’s Io, Loro E Lara’s $7.6m opening, excluding previews, in its home market secured sixth spot in the international chart as the highest new entry for the weekend. Including previews, Io, Loro E Lara grossed $12.9m for a screen average of $12,400, but will face stiff competition this weekend once Avatar reaches the territory. The latest from actor-director Carlo Verdone, the comedy follows a missionary as he returns home.

Daybreakers

Mandate International’s Daybreakers began its international run in Poland, Russia and the UK, where it grossed $2.2m from 378 screens. Michael and Peter Spierig’s horror thriller, starring Ethan Hawke, is set in 2019 after a plague has ravaged the human population, turning them into vampires.
Overall the film took $2.8m from 644 screens, a $4,400 average. Daybreakers opens in key territories Australia, France and Italy on January 21, March 17 and 19, respectively.

The Whistler

The Whistler (Le Siffleur) opened in France, Belgium and French-speaking Switzerland for a total of $1.6m from 285 screens, and a screen average of $5,700. EuropaCorp is releasing the crime comedy, which was directed by Philippe Lefebvre and stars Francois Berléand, Thierry Lhermitte and Sami Bouajila.
