The A-Team

20th Century Fox’s take on the popular ’80s TV series muscled into third spot on the international chart, making it the week’s highest new entry. The Joe Carnahan directed action/adventure took $14.4m after opening on 3,924 screens in 34 territories. The film has yet to be released in the key markets UK (July 30), Germany (August 12) France (June 16) and Japan (August 20).

The Karate Kid

Sony Pictures Releasing International’s kung fu inspired drama opened at number five internationally, making it the second new US entry in the top five. Grossing $6.4m from 817 screens the film scored a screen average of $7,817. The story follows a 12-year-old boy who must face down local bullies when his family relocates to China. TheKarate Kid opened in 10 territories last weekend and rolls out internationally across the summer.

Outrage

Japanese production Outrage was the third new entry on Screen’s top 40 chart, opening in 19th place. The Office Kitano film took $1.6m from 155 screens in Japan and achieved the week’s second highest screen average of $10,228. Takeshi Kitano directs, writes and stars in the crime drama which has yet to secure widespread international distribution.

Les Meilleurs Amis Du Monde

Gaumont’s comedy debuted at number 20 internationally after taking $1.6m from 330 screens across France. Julien Rambaldi’s directorial debut follows an eccentric group of friends whose loyalties are tested to the limit while spending a weekend together.
