The latest instalment in the horror franchise will open in more than 65 territories this weekend and looks good to usurp The Dark Knight Rises after that film’s seven consecutive sessions at the top.

Resident Evil: Retribution is set to land through Sony Pictures Releasing International in a number of major markets including Australia and New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sweden.

Warner Bros Pictures International’s The Dark Knight Rises has grossed more than $605m, while Fox International’s Ice Age 4 stands at $679.9m and Prometheus on $252,8m opens in Italy.

DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3 stands at $398.2m through Paramount Pictures International.

Universal Pictures International’s The Bourne Legacy has grossed $81.7m and Brave stands at more than $250m through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.
