As expected, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 dominated the domestic session thanks to an estimated $92m haul that established itself as the second biggest launch of the year-to-date behind Captain America 2.

Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Fox and Sally Field star in Columbia Pictures’ sequel to Marc Webb’s 2012 predecessor.

The film grossed $9.3m from 353 Imax screens for a $27,000 average. All of the top five and 16 of The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s top 20 runs were on Imax. The film’s global tally was expected to cross $25m by the end of Sunday (4).

The Amazing Spider-Man debuted on $62m in July 2012 and finished on $262m and the worldwide tally ended on $752.2m.

The current release stands at nearly half that amount on $369m after three sessions including the $277m international running total.

Last weekend’s champion The Other Woman from Fox slipped to number two and stands at $47.3m.

Heaven Is For Real held firm in third place and added $8.7m for a stellar $65.6m after three weekends through TriStar.

The other recent faith-based hit, God’s Not Dead, broke back into the top 10 and stands at $55.5m after seven weekends. Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel also reentered the top flight and has amassed $51.5m through Searchlight after nine.

Belle opened through Fox Searchlight on $105,000 from four for a strong $26,250 average, while in its second session Locke expanded from four to 25 theatres through A24 and added $140,000 for $253,000.

Focus Features opened the Elizabeth Banks comedy Walk Of Shame on $38,00 from 51 sites.

Diane Kurys’ drama For A Woman follows its recent premiere screening at COLCOA in Los Angeles and opened through Film Movement on $6,000 from two theatres.

Next weekend’s wide releases are: Universal’s Seth Roger and Zac Efron comedy Neighbors; TriStar’s comedy Mom’s Night Out; and Clarius Entertainment’s animation Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return.
