George Clooney and Hugh Laurie star in the Disney adventure.

Principal photography has begun in Vancouver on Disney’s mystery adventure Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson.

Cassidy, one of this year’s Screen Stars of Tomorrow, has previously featured in Snow White and the Huntsman and Dark Shadows.

The film is directed, produced and co-written by Brad Bird, who directed Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and The Incredibles.

Other producers are Damon Lindelof and Jeffrey Chernov, who both worked on JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot. The screenplay is written by Bird and Lindelof.

Jeff Jensen and John Walker will executive produce with Bernard Bellew and Tom Peitzman, VFX producer serving as co-producers.

The film’s plot has been shrouded in mystery but this latest announcement features this description: “Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as Tomorrowland.”

Director of photography is Claudio Miranda (Life of Pi), production designer is Scott Chambliss (Star Trek), costume designer is Jeffrey Kurland (Inception) and editor is Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now,The English Patient).

Tomorrowland will be released through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is currently set for a wide release on Dec 12, 2014.
