CHINA BOX OFFICE: Disney’s Cinderella stayed on top of the China box office last week with a gross of $28.37m, although Huayi Brothers’ Lost and Love opened strongly with $18.17m for second place. 

Cinderella has now grossed $53.45m after ten days on release.

Lost and Love, which opened on March 20, stars Andy Lau and Jing Boran in the story of a man who embarks on a 14-year quest to find his son who went missing when he was only two years old.

Taken 3, starring Liam Neeson, also had a respectable opening, taking $17m in three days for third place in the chart. It was followed by Big Hero 6, which grossed $11.59m over the week March 16-22 for a cumulative gross of $78m after 23 days. 

The Wachowskis’ Jupiter Ascending came in fifth with a further $4.47m for a cume of $44.62m after 17 days, nearly as much as its North America take. 

Chinese New Year releases From Vegas to Macau 2 and Wolf Totem held on in the next two spots – Wong Jing’s gambling comedy grossed $3.46m for a cume of $154.13m, while Jean-Jacques Annaud’s wilderness epic took $2.38m for a cume of $109.87m.

StudioCanal’s Paddington came in eighth with $1.94m and has grossed just shy of $15m after 18 days on release.

Rounding out the chart were Adrian Kwan’s Little Big Master, starring Miriam Yeung, which took $1.74m in three days and Wang Meng-yuan’s thriller Nowhere to Run, which took $1.58m for a cume of $3.42m.
