Claude Joli-Coeur has been appointed Canadian government film commissioner and chair of the National Film Board (NFB) for a five-year term, effective from November 27.

Joli-Coeur has served as interim government film commissioner and chair of the NFB since January 1 and previously held the position from December 2006 to June 2007.

He joined the NFB in October 2003 as director of business affairs and legal services and secretary to the board of trustees. He has been assistant commissioner of the NFB since June 2007.

“I am delighted to announce that Mr Joli-Coeur is the new government film commissioner and chair of the National Film Board Of Canada,” said Shelly Glover, minister of Canadian heritage and official languages.

“It is a great asset to have a person of Mr Joli-Coeur’s calibre leading this organisation. With his expertise, proven leadership and numerous contributions during his last 11 years at the National Film Board, he will continue to be highly valuable to the organisation.”
