Kathmandu-based script and production development lab Clinik.Kathmandu is set to launch two new programmes for young South Asian filmmakers for its 2016 edition.
The Writing Residency, which will be held twice annually, offers a mentoring programme to up to four residents. It is open to feature and documentary filmmakers from nine South Asian countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The Regional Workshop, which is designed as an extension of the current Clinik.Kathmandu workshop, focuses on content analysis and project development. The programme is also open to culture groups for cinema and visual arts and will start with Nepal, North East of India and Sri Lanka for its first edition.
Both new programmes will be held at Docskool’s community art centres in Nepal.
Clinik.Kathmandu was launched in 2013 by Docskool, a cultural network for the promotion of emerging South Asian filmmakers in the global platform. A total of 15 feature films have been through the lab so far, all of which are currently in development.
Meanwhile, South Asia will be the focus of Locarno’s Open Doors from 2016-2018.The Open Doors will spotlight the diverse cinematographic landscape of eight South Asian countries over the next three years, starting with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal in 2016.
Open Doors, Rotterdam’s Cinemart and Hong Kong Asian Film Forum (HAF) are industry partners of Clinik.Kathmandu.
