Altitude Film Sales has boarded Colm McCarthy’s adaptation of M.R. Carey’s best-selling novel.

Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton and Paddy Considine have joined the cast of She Who Brings Gifts.

Altitude Film Sales has boarded Colm McCarthy’s adaptation of M.R. Carey’s best-selling novel The Girl With All The Gifts, which Carey has adapted for the screen.

She Who Brings Gifts was on last year’s Brit List, a compendium of scripts set up as a complement to the US Black List.

The film marks the first major feature for Peaky Blinders, Sherlock and Doctor Who director McCarthy, and is due to shoot in the UK in May.

Camille Gatin and Angus Lamont will produce the film, which has been developed with the support of the BFI Film Fund.

Gatin commented: “It’s hugely exciting to combine Mike Carey’s truly original script and Colm McCarthy’s dynamic yet sensitive style, with such a terrific cast.”

She Who Brings Gifts is set in a dystopian future in which most of humanity is wiped out by a fungal infection and centres on Melanie, a girl who is kept in a cell and is full of questions about the world.

“Melanie’s story is a completely unique take on a much loved genre, seamlessly blending together a lonely child’s search for love and family with a terrifying journey where she controls the fate of the last adult humans on earth,” added Lamont.

Will Clarke, co-CEO and chairman of Altitude Film Entertainment, said: “She Who Brings Gifts is a smart take on the sci-fi genre and with a humanity which will draw a young adult audience and those already aware of Mike Carey’s best-selling novel. With the great cast that has come on board we have a highly commercial film which can cut through to a broad audience.”

Altitude Film Sales current slate includes Sean Ellis’ Anthropoid and Cosima Spender’s documentary Palio.
