First major territory deal secured for the upcoming UK action comedy; greenlight for a sequel in India.

Bula Quo!, the debut action comedy from British rockers Status Quo, has been snapped up by Constantin Films for all rights in German-speaking Europe.

Status Quo Films’ producer Stuart St Paul, head of sales Elisar Cabrera and the band’s manager Simon Porter negotiated the deal with Constanin’s Herman Weigel at the EFM in Berlin.

Sequel

The agreement includes a first look option on the sequel, Namaste Quo, on which director Stuart St Paul has been given the green light to begin pre-production in India this March for a Spring 2014 production start date.

Bula Quo!, in which veteran rockers Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt play themselves on the run from a gangster in Fiji played by Jon Lovitz, is set for a UK theatrical release on July 5.

The film also stars Laura Aikman and Craig Fairbras.

DVD / Soundtrack deals

Negotiations over the UK and Australian home entertainment rights are at an advanced stage. This would see a DVD/Bluray release simultaneous with a Bula Quo! arena tour later this year.

In Berlin, a deal was also struck for the Bula Quo! soundtrack album to have a simultaneous Europe release via Edel’s earMUSIC label.

The soundtrack features nine new songs and 11 hit tracks including Rockin’ All Over the World and Whatever You Want.

Porter said: “Knowing the huge fanbase that Status Quo has in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, its fantastic to be working with a great company like Constantin Films who are in the perfect position in the German marketplace to create an incredible buzz for the release.”
