AFTRA’s (American Federation Of Television And Radio Artists) national board of directors voted on Saturday (28) by 94%-6% in favour of a merger with SAG. The matter will go to referendum for membership.

On Friday the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) national board of directors voted 87%-13% in favour of a recommendation to merge with the American Federation Of Television And Radio Artists (AFTRA).

The board reviewed a merger package proposed by the SAG and AFTRA Group For One Union (G1) that includes a merger agreement and constitution.

The same merger package must now be approved by AFTRA’s national board of directors when they convene on Jan 28.

If the AFTRA board approves the merger package, a referendum will be sent out for a vote by members of both unions in the coming weeks.

The proposed name for the new union is SAG-AFTRA.
