The Film Department has filed for a public stock offering to fund a North American distribution apparatus.

Riding high on the recent success of Law Abiding Citizen (pictured), which has grossed close to $72m through Overture Films, the company wants to handle between six and ten films a year.

The Film Department Holdings has filed a registration statement with the Securities And Exchange Commission for an offering of shares of its common stock, with the number of shares and price range to be determined.

The Hollywood-based company currently finances and produces star-driven, commercial titles with net budgets between $10 and $45m.

The Weinstein Company’s international sales chief David Glasser overseas sales on the slate, which includes the Kate Hudson romantic comedy Earthbound.
