Vimeo previews pay service
Video-sharing website Vimeo has released six films to preview its upcoming pay-to-view service.
Members of the Vimeo staff handpicked the films, which include Alvaro Longoria’s documentary about human rights in the Western Sahara, Son of the Clouds: The Last Colony (produced by Javier Bardem), Brian Knappenberger’s We Are Legion: The Story of Hacktivists, about the virtual community Anonymous, and Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern’s chronicle of LCD Soundsystem’s last concert, Shut Up and Play the Hits.
Neil Berkeley’s Beauty is Embarrassing, Josh Berman and Level1 Productions’ Sunny and Teton Gravity Research’s Jeremy Jones’ Further are also featured.
The service, which will be made fully available to Vimeo PRO members in early 2013, lets users download movies to a “Watch Later” list that they can access through an iPad, Apple TV, Samsung TV or Roku streaming player.
Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor commented: “Our goal is to provide an open and flexible platform that allows all creators and content owners to earn revenue directly from their audiences.”
