Disney has signed a multi-year licensing deal that will make Netflix the exclusive US subscription TV outlet for first-run live action and animated features from the Walt Disney Studios starting in 2016.

The deal with Netflix’s streaming video service replaces Disney’s current pay TV deal with cable network Starz.

Beginning with the studio’s 2016 theatrical releases, new Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios and Disneynature titles will be made available for Netflix members to watch instantly in the pay TV window on platforms including television, tablets, computers and mobile phones.

Also covered by the agreement are what a statement called new “high-profile” Disney direct-to-video releases, which will be made available on Netflix starting in 2013.

Netflix previously had access to newer Disney movies through it’s deal with Starz, but that deal expired 11 months ago.

Disney and Netflix also signed a multi-year US catalogue deal covering titles including Dumbo, Pocahontas and Alice in Wonderland.
