TriPictures pick up Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark for Spain

Major distributor TriPictures has taken Spanish theatrical rights to the Guillermo Del Toro backed horror Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark from Miramax.

The deal was sealed at the EFM where the film was screened, and follows the announcement on Monday that FilmDistrict had taken US theatrical rights to the horror, which is being directed by comic book illustrator Troy Nixey.

Based on a script by Del Toro and Matthew Robbins, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark is a remake of the 1973 TV movie about a young girl who unwittingly unleashes something terrible from the basement of her dad’s new house.

Del Toro is also producing the film, which has taken 15 years to get made, alongside Mark Johnson, and the cast is led by Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison.

This deal follows TriPictures announcement from last week that it has signed a four year output deal with Relativity Media, which means the Spanish distributor will release all titles produced, financed and distributed in the US by Relativity.
