Bavaria takes worldwide rights to Leander Haussmann-directed comedy, produced by Gunter Rohrbach

Bavaria Film International will handle worldwide sales on Leander Haussmann’s comedy Hotel Lux starring German comedian Michael ‘Bully’ Herbig and up-and-comer Thekla Reuten.

WWII-set adventure-comedy Hotel Lux, produced by Günter Rohrbach (Das Boot, The Never Ending Story) and Corinna Eich of Bavaria Pictures, charts the journey of a comedian and actor who winds up playing the part of Stalin’s personal astrologer in Moscow after cracking one too many jokes about Hitler and sheltering a beautiful communist in his hometown Berlin.

Hotel Lux is a screwball comedy rolled into an adventure film that charters the lesser known territory of Stalin’s great purge. The film has the necessary serious undertones and loving obsession with historic details and political references that make it stand out in a sophisticated yet very commercial way,” said Bavaria Film International head Thorsten Ritter.

The film is screening in competition this Saturday at the Rome International Film Festival and will be released by Constantin Film this weekend in Germany.
