Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired all North American rights to The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best, writer/director/star Ryan O’Nan’s debut feature which is screening this week at the European Film Market.

The film, which had its world premiere at Toronto and its US premiere at last week’s Santa Barbara festival, follows underachiever Alex (O’Nan) as he embarks on an impromptu road trip with his new bandmate, the eccentric Jim (Michael Weston). Playing a series of bizarre shows and experiencing multiple near-disasters, Alex and Jim’s persistence takes them on a coming-of-age journey that may be their last shot at achieving their childhood dreams.

Oscilloscope plans a multi-city theatrical release later this year accompanied by a number of live performances by the film-inspired band The Brooklyn Brothers. A multi-platform digital and DVD release (as well as a soundtrack album released through Rhino) will follow.

Besides O’Nan and Weston, the film stars Arielle Kebbel, Melissa Leo, Andrew McCarthy, Christopher McDonald, Jason Ritter and Wilmer Valderrama. It was produced by Jason Michael Berman and Kwesi Collisson and executive produced by Ruth Mutch, Sergio Agüero, Thomas B Fore, Sandra R Berman, and Mark G Mathis.

International rights are being represented by Eric Christensen of Hollywood Studios International.

O’Nan said: “I truly couldn’t be happier with Brooklyn Brothers finding its home with Oscilloscope. I feel very lucky to have my film be with such a great team.”

The deal was negotiated by David Fenkel on behalf of Oscilloscope and International Creative Management and attorneys Larry Weinberg and Robert Fyvolent on behalf of the filmmakers.
