Buyers hot for HanWay docs
EXCLUSIVE: HanWay has seen brisk business on its slate of documentaries, including the Anton Corbijn doc Inside Out, which screens in Berlinale Special next week, and Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel.
Inside Out, an intimate portrait of Dutch photographer and filmmaker Corbijn (Control, The American) sold to Germany (Capelight), with Momentum and A-Film already on board for UK and Benelux rights respectively, while HanWay’s documentary about influential Harpers Bazaar editor Diana Vreeland has gone to France (Happiness), Germany (Prokino) and Benelux (ABC-Cinemien). Samuel Goldwyn and Studio Canal had previously taken US and UK rights respectively.
Mark Cousins’ The Story of Film has been picked up by France and Germany (StudioCanal), Italy (BIM Distribuzione), Spain (Avalon), Switzerland (Praesens Film), Benelux (ABC-Cinemien), Australia & New Zealand (Icon Film Distribution), Canada (Kinosmith), Brazil (Vinny Films), Sweden (SVT), Norway (NRK), Finland (YLE), UK (Network Releasing), while Woody Allen: A Documentary has sold to Japan (Kadokawa), Korea (Timestory) and Australia (Transmission).
HanWay recently added Roman Polanski; A Film Memoir to their slate of docs.
