Warcraft continued to reign supreme at the Chinese box office, taking $48.19m in the week of Jun 13 -19 and representing more than half of the week’s box office.

Following a record-breaking opening, Legendary-Universal’s video game adaptation dropped by approximately 69% in its second week. But it remained top even over the weekend after the opening of Finding Dory on Friday.

With $204.57m after 12 days, Warcraft bested Captain America: Civil War to become the sixth-highest-grossing imported film ever and eleventh-highest-grossing film overall.

With far fewer allotted screenings than Warcraft, Finding Dory settled for second place with $18.09m from its first three days. The Disney-Pixar animated sequel was not only the biggest Pixar opening in China, but also the second-highest-grossing Pixar animated film in China, behind Monsters University.

Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse trailed closely behind in third place with $16.71m for $114.88m after 17 days. Based on local currency running total of RMB755m, the latest X-Men film has outperformed its predecessor X-Men: Days Of Future Past and also become the sixth-highest-grossing imported film this year.

Two new Chinese titles entered the weekly top 10: animation Warrior vs Dragon opened in fifth with $1.47m and horror The Curse Of Chopsticks launched in seventh with $0.73m, both from their first three days.

Hollywood holdovers included Disney’s Alice Through The Looking Glass which ranked fourth with $2.21m for $58.03m after 24 days and Sony’s The Angry Birds Movie which dropped to sixth with $0.85m for $77.87m after 31 days.

Rounding out the weekly chart were Chinese holdovers Finding Mr Right: Book Of Love with $0.27m for $119.37m after 52 days; Our Graduation with $0.17m for $0.39m after ten days; and Song Of The Phoenix with $0.14m for $13.10 after 45 days.

The Chinese box office, which was bolstered by Warcraft’s record-breaking opening two weeks ago, dropped approximately 57% last week as the film tumbled significantly in its second week.

High profile titles such as Now You Catch Me 2, Independence Day: Resurgence and Three, all scheduled for Jun 24, are expected to set the box office on fire again.
