Cinema Management Group heads to Berlin with one of the most admired films in Sundance after picking up sales rights to the audience award documentary winner Buck.

This is the third year in a row that CMG has secured rights to a documentary from Sundance after special jury prize winners Gasland last year and Good Hair in 2009.

Cindy Meehl’s film follows Buck Brannaman, the man who inspired The Horse Whisperer, from his difficult childhood to his work as a horse trainer. Julie Goldman produced.

Edward Noeltner of CMG negotiated the deal with David Koh and Josh Braun of Submarine, who earlier in the festival licensed North American rights to Buck to Sundance Selects/IFC Films.

“We are thrilled to take Buck from its major prize at Sundance to the international market starting with Berlin where we expect strong interest from the international community,” Noeltner said.

“There is a beautiful universal message in Buck that will resonate with audiences around the world. Having three exceptional films in a row from Sundance is not only a great honour but a pleasure for us.”
