Well Go USA has acquired all North American rights from Huayi Brothers Media to Tai Chi O, the first in a planned trilogy of films from Detective Dee And The Mystery Of Phantom Flame producer Chen Kuofu.

Stephen Fung directed Tai Chi O, about a talented fighter who learns martial arts from a village elder and helps the people defeat a vicious adversary. William Feng, Eddie Peng and Angelababy star.

Well Go USA president Doris Pfardrescher negotiated the deal with Leslie Chen on behalf of Huayi Brothers Media. The film will open in early 2013. 

  • Sundance Selects has acquired North and Latin American rights to SXSW narrative winner Gimme The Loot.
  • Tribeca Film will release four films set to screen at the festival in April – The Giant Mechanical Man, Death Of A Superhero, Sleepless Night and to Booker’s Place: A Mississippi Story, a documentary from Raymond De Felitta. Tribeca Film director of acquisitions Nick Savva negotiated the deal for Booker’s Place with Steven Beer of Greenberg Traurig. All four films will play nationwide on VoD during the annual festival, which runs in New York from Apr 18-29, and will get a theatrical release. The first three titles will be available on VoD from Apr 17-Jun 19 while Booker’s Place runs from Apr 26.
  • FilmBuff has taken worldwide digital distribution rights to Blayne Weaver’s romantic comedy-drama 6 Month Rule and the film will open in a limited theatrical pattern in June through Richard Abramowitz’ Abramorama. FilmBuff will then release on to all digital platforms in July. Jeremy Tenser negotiated the deal with Steven Beckman of FilmBuff.
  • TLA Releasing has acquired worldwide rights to Alexandra Roxo and Alana Kearns-Green’s Mary Marie, a tale of sexual rivalry between two women and a local handyman. TLA Releasing vp of operations Kelly Burkhardt brokered the deal for the company.
