Sony Pictures announced on Friday [26] it had reached an understanding with Chinese authorities who pulled the film inexplicably on Apr 11 within minutes of the first screenings.

It is understood the film, which has grossed more than $420m worldwide through Sony internationally and The Weinstein Company in North America, was given the go-ahead after the studio made new, unspecified cuts.

“We are delighted that audiences throughout China will be able to experience Django Unchained beginning Sunday, May 12th,” the studio said in a statement.

“There is tremendous excitement, anticipation and awareness for the film and we thank the local authorities for quickly resolving this issue.”
