eOne increases local market-share with multi-year Remstar distribution deal.

Entertainment One (eOne) has entered into a three-year distribution agreement with fellow Canadian outfit Remstar Films which will see eOne become the exclusive distributor of Remstar features in their home market.

The agreement, effective immediately, covers rights in all media in Canada with the exception of theatrical, VOD and French-language television rights in Quebec.

eOne will be handle bookings, marketing and distribution for Remstar which will continue to acquire for the territory.

“Remstar has built a very solid business through great leadership and products,” said Bryan Gliserman, president, eOne Films Canada. “The company has long thrived in the Quebec market with premium French-language titles such as Polytechnique, Funkytown and Mesrine. They also have a proven aptitude for acquiring award-winning and commercial features, like The Wrestler and Planet 51 and we’re looking forward to collaborating with them to offer their product throughout Canada,” Gliserman continued.

“Remstar continues to focus on bringing premium films to Canadian audiences and with eOne’s proven track record, we’re eager to now offer our quality features to a coast to coast audience,” said Maxime Rémillard, co-president & CEO, Remstar.

Late last year news broke that indie major eOne had received approaches from various parties interested in acquiring the company and that the board engaged JP Morgan and Credit Suisse to co-ordinate a review of the business.
