Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne will star in Luc Besson’s big-screen adaptation of the French sci-fi graphic novel.

Valerian will centre on the exploits of the spatio-temporal agent and his smarter, sexy companion Laureline.

Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres created the property, which first appeared in Pilote magazine in 1967 and has since sold over 10m copies in 21 languages.

Production on Valerian is set to begin at the end of this year and the film-makers are targetting a summer 2017 global launch. EuropaCorp will finance, produce and distribute.

Besson will adapted the screenplay and direct, with Virginie Besson Silla producing on behalf of EuropaCorp.

The company’s slate includes The Transporter Refueled to open on September 4, Shut In starting Naomi Watts and set for February 19 2016, Nine Lives starring Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Garner scheduled for April 29 2016 and The Lake with Sullivan Stapleton and JK Simmons set for July 15 2016.
