The financing, production and sales company will handle sales on Reinout Oreleman’s Dutch hit.

Goldcrest, the financing, production and sales company, has picked up worldwide sales for Reinout Orelemans’ A Woman Goes To The Doctor ahead of next week’s European Film Market.

The film was a hit in its home territory Holland and has become the best opening Dutch film in local cinema history racking up 1.1m admissions. It beat both The Twilight Saga: New Moon and 2012.

A Woman Goes To The Doctor is based on the best-selling novel Komt Een Vrouw Bij De Dokter by Dutch author Kluun. It features Carice Van Houten and Dutch theatre star Barry Atsma as  a couple forced to embark on a heart-wrenching journey to learn the brutal truth of life and love.

It was produced by Oscar-winning producers Hans de Wees and Orelemans with Sim Van Veen of Eyeworks Film & TV Drama and in collaboration with Inspire Pictures.

Penny Wolf, head of film at Goldcrest, said: “We are delighted that Goldcrest was able to conclude a deal on this very powerful film that has taken the Dutch box office by storm.”
