UK-based sales agent HanWay Films has already concluded pre-sales with 12 distributors for Christopher Smith’s medieval mystery thriller Black Death

The film is currently shooting at locations in the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The Halle-based Egoli Tossell Film production has been sold to the UK (Revolver/Sony), Romania/Greece (Odeon), Portugal (Lusomundo), CIS/Baltic States (Soyuz), Czech Republic/Slovakia (Hollywood Classics), Poland (Polsat), Ex-Yugoslavia (First Productions), Middle East (Front Row), Indonesia (Queen Films), Turkey (Avsar), Brazil (PA Pictures), and Mexico(En Pantalla).

Speaking exclusively to ScreenDaily from the film’s set, producer Jens Meurer of Egoli Tossell Film said that the international production is also one of the first deals signed by Wild Bunch Germany. It will be released in German in 2010 via Central Film, the French sales company’s 50-50 joint venture with Senator Entertainment.

Meurer also revealed that Dutch actress Carice van Houten, with who appeared in Egoli Tossell Film’s children’s title Lepel and Paul Verhoeven’s Black Book in Germany will join the cast today (May 14). The other leads are Sean Bean, up-and-coming star Eddie Redmayne and newcomer Kimberley Nixon.

Zephyr Films’ Phil Robertson and Ecosse Films’ Robert Bernstein are also producing project, which has been completely financed out of Germany. It has received backing from Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF) incentive scheme, and Saxony-Anhalt’s new financial body, ImpulsMedien Sachsen-Anhalt.
