HPI off to Cannes with Dorothy

EXCLUSIVE: Hyde Park International (HPI) has acquired international rights to Will Finn and Daniel St Pierre’s 3D animation Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return.

HPI president Eric Christenson will screen the project and introduce to buyers on the Croisette. As previously announced, it will also screen at the 2013 Annecy International Animation Festival and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will handle home entertainment in North America

Lea Michele, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi and Kelsey Grammer star in the family adventure based on the series of books by Roger Stanton Baum, the great-grandson of L Frank Baum.

Adam Balsam and Randi Barnes adapted the screenplay and Bonne Radford is producing alongside Ryan Carroll and Roland Carroll of Summertime Entertainment.

The story takes place after events in The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz as Dorothy wakes up in a tornado-ravaged Kansas and returns to Oz to save her friends the Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man from a new foe. Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is scheduled to open on May 2 2014 through Clarius Entertainment on a minimum of 3,000 screens.

HPI’s Cannes slate includes: Elmore Leonard’s Switch starring Jennifer Aniston, John Hawkes and Tim Robbins; Every Secret Thing starring Diane Lane, Elizabeth Banks and Dakota Fanning; A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle with Robin Williams, Lauren Graham and Joel McHale; Careful What You Wish For starring Nick Jonas and Isabel Lucas; and Midnight Sun from director the Roger Spottiswoode.
