An excellent weekend overall for Fox saw Blue Sky Studios’ latest animation, Ice Age: Continental Drift, open at number one on an estimated $46m for a worldwide running total of $385m.

Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man dropped one place to number two and crossed $200m in its second weekend after gaining a further $35m. Universal’s R-rated comedy Ted ranks third and stands at $158.9m.

Pixar’s Brave in fourth place is on the cusp of crossing $200m through Buena Vista after four weekends while Magic Mike is powering towards the $100m mark after three.

In limited release, Millennium Entertainment opened Sundance acquisition Red Lights from Rodrigo Cortes in two theatres for $10,000. Cohen Media Group opened Farewell My Queen on $72,100 from four while IFC launched Trishna on $30,600 from three and Sundance documentary hit The Imposter arrived in a single theatre through Indomina Media for $20,600. The Weinsteins opened Swedish crime thriller Easy Money (Snabba Cash) on $23,800 from two venues.

Next weekend’s wide release is Warner Bros’ The Dark Knight Rises from Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway.
