IFC Films led a flurry of domestic distribution deals announced today [23], taking US rights to Pierre Thorentton’s French documentary Yves Saint Laurent L’amour Fou.

The film won the Fipresci prize in Toronto and offers a glimpse into the fashion designer’s life through a sale of his private art collection initiated by his life companion Pierre Berge.

IFC Films’ director of acquisitions and co-productions Lizzie Nastro negotiated the deal with Nicolas Brigaud Robert of Films Distribution. IFC plans a 2011 theatrical launch.

Meanwhile in two other deals:

  • Severin Films today has acquired North American rights to teen comedy Devolved starring Lindsey Shaw and Chris Kattan and plans a March 2011 release after Severin CEO Carl Daft negotiated the deal with producer Bettina Tendler O’Mara of Visualeyes Films.
  • Lorber Films has taken all North American rights to C Scott Willis’s documentary The Woodmans, about the influential family of artists comprising George and Betty Woodman and their offspring Charles and Francesca. The Best New York Documentary winner at Tribeca will open in early 2011 after Richard Lorber and Elizabeth Sheldon of Kino Lorber brokered the deal with Willis and Josh Braun of Submarine.
