Iron Man 3 soars past $700m global

The Marvel Studios blockbuster merited a mention by Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger in Tuesday’s [7] earnings call and has reached $711.3m worldwide and $525.8m internationally.

Vietnam has become the first market where Iron Man 3 has surpassed the total gross of The Avengers. Disney sources said a handful of Asian markets were also approaching that mark.

Thus far China remains the lead market on $66.2m through the end of Monday, followed by:

  • South Korea: $43.8m
  • UK: $40.4m
  • Mexico: $36.8m
  • Brazil: $30.4m
  • France: $28.7m
  • Australia: $28.5m
  • Russia: $26m
  • Japan: $17.7m
  • Italy: $17.6m
  • Taiwan: $15.6m
  • Philippines: $12.6m
  • Indoneia: $11.5m
  • Malaysia: $11m
  • Hong Kong: $10.9m.

Iron Man 3 stands at $185.5m in North America and has overtaken the $181m and $177m final tallies of Thor and Captain America, respectively.

In North America, the film tied with The Avengers as the fastest to cross $100m in two days and is projected to cross $200m on its sixth day, making it the joint third fastest with The Dark Knight Rises — although three films are tied ahead of it on five days and The Avengers holds the record of three days.

  • Shares at The Walt Disney Company reached an all-time high of $66.07 at closing after Disney’s first quarter earnings call. Walt Disney Studios’ first quarter revenues of $1.34bn climbed 13% against the same period in 2012 when Disney effected a write-down on John Carter.
