The Australian WWI drama has already been a hit at home, it has grossed $1.6m (A$1.7m) in its first two weeks of release by Paramount.

Financing, production and sales company Intandem Films has sold Australian hit Beneath Hill 60 to Momentum Pictures for the UK.

Momentum is part of Canada-based Alliance Atlantis.

Beneath Hill 60 has already been a hit at home, it has grossed $1.6m (A$1.7m) in its first two weeks of release by Paramount, which launched it on 163 prints.

Jeremy Hartley Sims directed the film, based on the true story of a secret platoon comprised of Australian miners who prepare to detonate the world’s largest stash of explosives under German Lines to end WWI.

Brendan Cowell, Warwick Young, Anthony Hayes, Jacqueline McKenzie, Gyton Grantley and Harrison Gilbertson star.

London-based Intandem will host the film’s market premiere at Cannes, with screenings on March 15 and 16.

Intandem’s CEO Gary Smith said:”The UK market is one of the hardest to crack for any movie and we are delighted that a company of the calibre and experience of Momentum has seen the potential of Beneath Hill 60. We are excited to be working with them to maximise its revenues in the UK market.”

He continued: “Beneath Hill 60 will also be screening in Cannes on 15th and 16th May and coupled with a successful release in Australia and the UK giving its stamp of approval, we’re hoping to generate further sales from the rest of the world.”
